The modern era of music has given way to enigmas and artists of all shapes and forms who break the norm of what have come to expect as far as what an artist truly is. Leon Phelps is one such artist that epitomizes the essence of the modern era. A multi-talented vocalist and rapper born and raised in Seattle, WA. Leon Phelps is making music that is thoughtful, conscious and driven by a desire to motivate, inspire, comfort and spread love and joy to all those that hear it.
He initially started making beats and recording music at the age of 14. He eventually began making remixes and then transitioned into recording his own music. It was during this period of evolution that Leon Phelps’s creativity and undeniable talent began to shine through. He ultimately developed a style of songwriting that is transparent, daring and full of hope and reflective of his experiences, thought and ambitions, turning his pain into purpose and lessons into studio sessions. He released a mixtape and then took a hiatus from music. Phelps returned to form a record label with a well-known local artist LROC and experienced manager Frankie Hustle and together they grew from strength to strength
Born in a musically inclined family where his grandmother was a singer and performer and his father was in a local rap group NW Posse. Leon Phelps has had a vast array of musical influences however he accredits the pivotal influences in his music to 50 Cent’s Get Rich Or Die Trying, E-40’s In a Major Way & The Click Albums, Richie Rich’s Seasoned Veteran , 2pac’s Me Against The World & All Eyes On Me, Dr. Dre’s Chronic Albums, Dj Quik’s Rhythm-al-ism, Twista’s Adrenaline Rush, Wiz Khalifa’s Kush & OJ & Chance The Rapper’s Acid Rap. This all culminates in Leon Phelps producing a musical experience that is enjoyable, easy going and fun but still seeks to provoke thought and Leon Phelps uses his music as a vehicle to express his perspectives and tell stories. He is inspired to give quality music, with quality bars & dope cadences in a unique way.
Leon Phelps will be releasing an EP titled “Love x Evol” on Valentine’s Day that will showcase his lyricism in a uniquely constructed piece of musical artistry. His music exhibits not only his versatility and vocal prowess but has surely cemented his style as witty, and confident rapper and has paved the way for the varied expressions of his musical ideas and artistic craft. This is the music that will push the boundaries of our perception as well as inspire and drive us to introspective conversations.
